720 in the Books..."720 in the Books" This song was made famous by Jan Savitt and his Mad Hatters. Savitt was a Russian emigrant who recorded it in Philadelphia, Pa. It was an original composition by band arranger Johnny Watson - so called because that was it's number in the Savitt library and nobody could come up with a better title.

Moonlight Serenade ...“Moonlight Serenade,” known as Glenn Miller’s theme song was first titled “Now I Lay me Down to Weep” and then “Gone With the Dawn” before being given the name we know it as today.  This song featured a clarinet lead, which would become a well-known and often used technique of the Swing Era and a sound identified with the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

Buenos Dias Argentina..."Buenos Dias Argentina" is in a moderately slow Latin style. It pays homage to great band leaders like Xavier Cugat, Prez Prado and Tito Puente. It demonstrates the versitality of music styles performed by The Do Good Swingband and their committment to providing music that is both highly danceable and great fun.

In The Mood...“In the Mood” was written by Joe Garland and was first played by Artie Shaw who discarded it because it was too long at eight minutes.  Miller made cuts to produce the song that we know today.  It also has a recognizable device in which a phrase is repeated several times, fading away to the point of nearly disappearing only to suddenly burst back.  This was considered a kind of “cat & mouse” teaser certain to entertain the listener.

We hope you enjoy these selections and hope you will stay tuned for more to come.
